                                                                                                    THE MALVERNIAN
Our Football teams had a busy term of cup competitions, with the Boys’ 1st XI getting through to the second round of the ISFA National Cup after a tough match against Clifton College. The boys also had a difficult draw in the ISFA Bowl and were unfortunate to lose on penalties following a 1-1 draw with Monmouth. Our Girls’ 1st XI entered the ISFA Shield and are currently waiting to play their round of 16 match after an excellent 4-2 win over Shrewsbury. This term has also seen Anthony Selvadoray and Tom Rodriguez make their debuts for Worcester City U18, playing against some academy teams in the Midland Floodlit Youth League.
This term has been a very busy one for the Rackets players. Most are also involved in rugby teams and cricket practices so using the time on court has been critical. Throughout the term we have had good wins against Radley, Clifton and Rugby School. The first pair of Flynn Gunston and Sam Clements have had a mixed term of results, but they are a year young so are gaining valuable experience for next year. Our second pair of Amaan Edavalath and Joe Harrison have not had many matches but practice hard during the week and have shown real improvement. The Colts pairing of Toby Cox and Henry Hardinges have proved difficult to beat. Our Junior Colts pair of Ed Taylor and Hugo Hardinges have shown real promise and latterly this term have produced their best performances. Unfortunately, there have not been so many matches for the girls that play but that hasn’t stopped Alice Sclater, Freya Newman, Georgia Clements and Emily Sirett coming in and practicing hard. FY boys Charlie Warburton and Charlie Taylor have got the bug and come in regularly. We have boys and girls playing in the National Schools Competition at Queen’s Club in a week’s time so we wish all players the best of luck.
The Squash team have competed in the national schools’ competition and are still going strong after finishing second in their group, which is also a reflection on the excellent coaching from OM Will Vanston. The badminton and basketball teams have both been in action against local opposition. Erica Tong impressed so much in her Badminton match she has been asked to train with the county team and the basketball squad has tripled in numbers over the course of the term. It has been great to see some FY getting into fives, either through the FY PE rotation or through the CCA programme. This small group are developing well and played their first match against Marlborough. The senior squad is made up of boys in Hundred and Upper Sixth and have had two good games against Rugby and Marlborough.
Congratulations to all our pupils who have worked so hard this term. We are extremely proud of everyone who puts on the Malvern colours to represent their school, and extremely grateful for all the staff who make it possible, along with the incredible support from the parent body.
