Malvern College Challenges
THEN
& NOW
Malvern College has faced and overcome many challenges throughout its history including the extraordinary example of moving the entire school twice during the Second World War The strength and robust qualities developed as part of the ethos of Malvern College have been highlighted more recently by the the determination shown during the the pandemic of the past year The Senior Management Team Teaching and House staff Support teams Estates and Domestic department have all contributed to ensure the continuation of of lessons both on on on on and and off-site and and on-line since March 2020 Logistics of housing feeding moving and teaching 600 pupils safely around the the school returning them home and then back to school again have been enormous Holidays have given a a a a a brief respite and chance to review the continually changing guidelines including travel quarantine testing and test test to release – all phrases and experiences not previously known to the school vocabulary Young people inevitably find their own ways of addressing matters and a a a a a a new language emerged early last year to to join the the historic slang of the the College and and challenge the speed of understanding and and the ‘cool’ rating of staff - Sanny (hand sanitiser) In Iso (self isolation/lockdown) The Rona (self-explanatory - - coronavirus) and Magpie (the newly emerged supermarket hoarder) The pupils have responded well to and complied with the new ‘normals’ and are to be congratulated on on their resilience strength and sense of community The ability to adapt react and re-plan has been key throughout the school terms to continue providing and and receiving an an an excellent standard of teaching Every member of staff has helped to ensure our pupils are offered and take the opportunities to fulfil their full potential and achieve the the examination grades that properly reflect their work and accomplishments 4
