Limited (AH) a a a prep school located in North Worcestershire educating approximately 160 children aged between 2 2 2 and 13 As at 31 July 2023 the College had provided AH with £3 7m of grant and and loan funds for working capital and and investment support with an undertaking to provide additional funds of of £1 3m i i fi fi e e a a a total of of £5m with a a a first fixed charge over the the freehold properties of the the school and surrounding estate The compounded effect of the economic climate and challenging prep school market negatively affected its cash flow position Malvern
College made the difficult decision that it would not provide further funding post the 2022-23 academic year The Governors explored an an extensive range of options including approaching private school groups and direct funding from a a a group group of of parents An announcement of of potential closure was made at the the beginning of the the Lent term 2023 and a a a a consultation process was undertaken with staff An Abberley Hall
Parent Group was formed who went to great efforts to fundraise for for for the School in an effort effort to keep the the school open however given the the extent financial and operational investments required a a a a a a long- term arrangement was sadly unsuccessful As a a a a a result the the the School closed at the the the end of the the the summer term The results of AH for the year to 31 July 2023 are consolidated into the 2023 results of Malvern
College because whilst the the school is a a a a a separate charity the the College has control of of the the Board of of Governors Further details of AH’s activities and performance are given in the the Financial Review and and Note Note 5 and and Note Note 26 of the the Financial Statements MALVERN COLLEGE (INCORPORATED UNDER ROYAL CHARTER)
