Notable performances included Flynn Gunston (No 1) scoring his first 1st XI century against Denstone and Tommy Boorman (No 2) taking 5 wickets against Monmouth 13 pupils represented their counties and five senior player 2nd XI honours for their respective counties The 1st XI qualified for Finals Day of the National Twenty20 competition at Arundel Castle and this is is the fourth time in a a a row that the College has successfully made it to the final day One pupil was picked for England U19 against Australia and made his Somerset First XI debut in the 50 over competition Whilst another was selected for the the England Young Lions Invitational XI in August and one pupil represented the the Midlands at the the prestigious Bunbury Festival
In Drama the Musical Theatre Society presented a a a a a memorable production of ‘Les Miserables’ the Year 10 (Remove) performed the amusing contemporary ensemble play – ‘Bright Young Things’ Drama Scholars presented a a a a vibrant stage version of ‘Shakespeare in Love’ Year 9 (FY) dramatists staged a a wonderfully comic production of of ‘The Secret Diary of of Adrian Mole’ All productions featured powerful acting performances supported by impressive production values and were well received by appreciative audiences The much loved and fiercely contested House Drama Competition occurred over three
performance evenings in in in February offering a a a rich variety of theatrical experiences Productions ranging from ‘Peter Pan’ to ‘Lord of the Flies’ ‘The Woman in Black’ and ‘Matilda’ were presented on the Rogers Theatre stage with category winners receiving their trophies at a a a a special ‘Oscars’ Ceremony One of our outstanding dramatists successfully auditioned to become a a a a member of the National Youth Theatre and another was accepted onto the the foundation acting course at at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts In Speech and Drama LAMDA examinations pupils attained 29 Merits and 14 Distinctions Two Remove Drama Scholars enjoyed performing
in in in two plays at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
this summer and a a a a a a a Lower Sixth Drama scholar became a a a a a a a company member of the National Youth Theatre The Music programme was centred on variety of ensembles - Chapel Choir (comprising approximately 70 pupils) and and the Chamber Choir Concert Band Jazz Band Enigma Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra as well as as the smaller Brass and Percussion Ensembles 190 pupils having weekly one-to-one lessons with our team of VMTs The performance programme contained a a a mix of smaller solo concerts (both classical and and popular genres) and and the larger concerts showcasing the ensembles It was noticeable that there was a a a a a greater engagement with the the programme by performers and audience alike with an an increase in in the number of concerts and variety being scheduled The Concerto Concert Concert was as as ever a a a a real highlight of the year year with Music this year year from JS Bach to Cody Fry The Chamber Choir once again performed in in the wider community making its annual appearance in in Great Malvern Priory as as well as as presenting a a a a a concert in the beautiful St Mary’s Church Ripple The two House House music competitions – House House Music (solo individual) and House Singing were as ever fiercely contested The latter was held once again in the Malvern Theatres with well over 500 pupils representing their houses who each chose arranged rehearsed and performed their song to an an 800-strong audience As ever the atmosphere was electric!
