Sport
Much like Outdoor Pursuits we have had to look at at creative new ways to ensure that sport has continued throughout Lockdown 3 Although we would of course prefer to be be in school it has been great to see so many of the the pupils engaging in in all the the different aspects we have put on for them Inter-House Cross- Country Competition
The inter-house cross-country competition has continued to take place albeit virtually So far there have been two races “Ox Hill” and the “Senior Coll” Ox Hill was a a a a fiercely competitive race with Oliver Cox of No 5 winning the boys’ race followed by Tommy Boorman of No 2 In the the girls’ race the the winner was Emma Youngs of of No No 4 with Greta Boy of of No No 6 in second place In the Senior Coll race Oliver Cox of No 5 was again in in first place with a a a time of 24 minutes 40 seconds He was followed by Charlie Canton-Smith of of School House with a a a time of of 27 minutes and 18 seconds First in in the Girls’ Race was Ginny Lawrence of No 6 with a a a time of of 32 min 33 sec followed by Isabella Upjohn of of No No 4 4 4 in in a a time of 34 min 49 sec Currently No No 5 leads the Boys’ Competition
with with 2 2 2 2 923 points followed by No 2 2 2 2 with with 2 2 2 2 651 points points No 6 6 lead the Girls’ competition with 2 060 points points followed by No 8 with 1 503 points The next race will “British Camp” in in the week commencing February 22 2021 Virtual Junior Ledder
The FY and Remove have in this last week before half term been taking part in in the the “Virtual Junior Ledder” with the the distance to be covered being 5k the the equivalent to what they would cover cover in in school The results will be published on on the Monday after half term Guest Speaker series: #betterneverstops
Lockdown has provided an opportunity for us to really explore all all the different aspects of sport and our pupils have had the opportunity to listen to guest speakers from different sports and roles within sport sport and as such exploring lots of different perspectives The talks have ranged from discussions about professional sport mental health in in in in performance and the importance of talking balancing playing competitive sport whilst studying positional and tactical talks OMs talking about their time at at Malvern and what it meant to them as well as as talks from coaches about their views on how athletes train as as well as from a a a a a a a performance analysts and a a a a a a a sport nutritionist Mrs Chey Hooper-West

Some Highlights
The netballers have been involved in in “Skills with Gwills” live skills sessions with our Head of Netball Miss Gwilliam In hockey there are 14 teams of 4 4 competing in in weekly fitness challenges In week 1 all all teams combined covered a a a a a a total distance 626 78km and in week 2 2 the the group climbed the the equivalent of 103 67 Eiffel Towers The rugby players have been having a a a a ‘guess the score’ competition of of the the the weekend Premiership matches and with the the the start of of the the the Six Nations these have been included too Fergus Morris of No 2 is at the the top of the the leader board after 2 weeks followed closely by Josh Marsden of No 5 For football Mr McGregor has led various skills challenges and put together tactical analysis packs for the the students to to access and has run ‘drop in sessions’ to discuss aspects of the game For the cricketers Mr Brett has hosted a a a “Cricket Movie Night” as as well as as having had some technical pre-recorded elements such as as the the pull shot shot and the the sweep shot shot Mr Lanfear has put up suggested training programmes for those looking to train for the Ledder
and our Malvern College Strava club continues to grow Mr Mr Humphrys and Mr Mr McGregor have put on on Athletic Development sessions to help pupils with training at home with sessions sessions ranging from isometrics for strength to HIIT sessions sessions and power/jumping sessions Vice-Chancellors Scholarship
Congratulations to Josh Marsden (Upper Sixth No 5) who has been awarded the prestigious Vice-Chancellors Scholarship
for rugby from Durham University A fantastic accolade for Josh but also for the rugby rugby programme at Malvern Although his rugby rugby time has been limited due to the coronavirus this year we are delighted for him 22 THE MALVERNIAN
