THE MALVERNIAN
Italian Club: Lezioni di cucina!
Our Italian club has been cooking up a storm this term! Our love for the Italian language has shifted its attention to a love for all food Italian. Despite being just beginners, our students learnt to decipher all of the ingredients and instructions for making some delicious traditional Italian recipes. The result of these excellent comprehension skills was some delightful treats; we hugely enjoyed making and learning all about the cultural history of “le bruschettte” and “il tiramisù”! Students discovered that “tiramisù” actually means “pull me up” or “cheer me up” – so now we know exactly what to eat and how to make it next time we are feeling blue!

Wheeler-Bennett Society
The first speaker of the Wheeler-Bennett society was Reuben Dargan. The promising title of his talk, “Testosterone: Man-maker or heartbreaker?”, generated a great deal of interest from the audience. Reuben not only educated the listeners with his detailed knowledge about the hormone Testosterone, but at the same time entertained them with his confident performance. The talk was of high quality and was followed by a lot of good questions from the audience.
The second talk of the Wheeler-Bennett society was given by Evelyn Kenrick. She talked passionately about one of the oldest human traditions: “The Art of storytelling: and narration.” Evelyn enlightened the audience by explaining how stories are structured and how a good storyline is developed. The audience responded with a lot of interesting questions that led to further discussions.
Both talks were impressive and set the bar high for the following speakers of the Wheeler-Bennett Society.
