OSCAR Foundation
Beatriz Cunningham, Ariana Davison, Millie Cox, Jasmine Jain, Amber Anderson and Kiki Asein are raising funds for the OSCAR Foundation, an Indian charity that is organising a girls’ football tour to the UK this term. As part of the fund raising, in the next few weeks, we are holding an inter- house football tournament, a house charity fair and a casual clothes day. We will be hosting the fifteen Indian girls from 3-5 October and our girls will be playing them in a football match on 4 October. The girls who are visiting us in October are mainly aged 15 or 16. It will be the girls’ first time outside India. The charity provides education for children living in shanty towns in Mumbai and in villages in India and works to promote female empowerment and gender equality.
We would be very grateful if you could donate to the charity and share the link with any friends or family you think might be interested.

Well done to all of our pupils who made positive strides in their self-development over the summer.

Parent comminication
May I remind parents that most communication from the school will be via email, iSAMS Parent Portal or Buzz. Nine or ten email communications have already been sent to most new parents since the end of June. If you have not been receiving these messages, please contact mis@malcol.org to check that we have correct email addresses recorded. Similarly, please contact mis@malcol.org if you have any trouble activating your accounts for the iSAMS Parent Portal or for Buzz. Details of how to do this were sent to new parents on 28 August.
Fire risk report
We have recently been inspected by independent Fire Risk Inspectors who have informed us that, based on the size, location and number of exits or emergency exits in our Chapel, we are not able to have the whole school attend Chapel together as we have done for well over 100 years. This assessment has been corroborated by further Fire Risk Assessors and, while I am aware
it is extremely disappointing news for many reasons, we have been creative in response and considered carefully the ‘shape’ of our week. We have borne in mind the reduction of pressure on our pupils and the better utilisation of Sundays for activities other than Chapel. As a consequence of this, we now have two Assemblies – one on a Monday for the Sixth Form and one on a Tuesday for the Lower School, a marginally earlier start to lessons on a Wednesday and then a Thursday and a Saturday service with Houses rotating between the two and a full Choir taking part on the latter occasion. We will, therefore, only have Sunday Chapel on specific calendared occasions such as Remembrance Sunday when we expect all pupils, including day pupils, to attend. There is, therefore, now more time on Sundays for trips and activities which can start earlier in the day and there will be the usual busy variety of House trips, competitions and outings. We are also planning more centrally-organised trips and activities, with a member of staff given the specific responsibility of co-ordinating our whole Sunday programme.
