Our Malvern Stories
Scholarships for Entry in 2022
In-readiness for entry in 2022, we are pleased
to release our new Scholarships brochure. We are placing much more emphasis on the scholar and not the
scholarship. Our scholarship programmes will ensure that all scholars feel proud of their award status and are motivated to develop, amongst other skills, academic independence, ambition, and intellectual curiosity.
Dr Bradley Wells, Head of Academic Scholarship, is responsible for the Malvern College Scholarship programme and once the scholars have been identified, he ensures the younger scholars are provided with a mentor who will support and guide them through their five year journey as a Malvern College Scholar.
We follow the Common Academic Scholarship Examination (CASE) for the core subjects in English, Maths and Science
and we will set our own Malvern College scholarship papers, which will be based on CASE course content for the other optional subjects which are French, German, Spanish, History, Geography, TPR (Theology, Philosophy, Religion), Latin and Greek. We feel that by composing our own examination papers we will write exams that not only allow us to better determine the academic ability of the potential scholar, but also their emotional intelligence, cultural awareness, and to a degree their personality and ability to excel at Malvern College.
Scholarship candidates take five examinations, choosing two optional subjects and three core subjects and are invited for
a twenty minute interview with two members of our academic team, where they will be invited to talk about a topic of their choosing and initiate a conversation. This is an opportunity for us to see how the candidates perform whilst under pressure and how well they can articulate their views and opinions, expressing them clearly and if need be, defending them confidently when challenged.
To conclude the candidates will take part in a collaborative problem-solving challenge. This presents us with the opportunity to see how they work with others, demonstrating some or maybe all of the well-tested values we call the Malvern Qualities.
Our overriding aim is to ensure that the potential scholar has or will have the ability, tenacity and resilience to thrive and enjoy all the opportunities that Malvern College has to offer in its core academic, Super-Curriculum and Co- Curriculum Programmes.
