Mobile Phones
The College’s approach to mobile phones (and similar technology) is a a a a combination of education and putting appropriate controls in in place Parents are asked to to support the College’s protocols
and therefore not provide their children with
a a second phone! Mr Christopher Thomas (Computer Science teacher) is Head of E-safety and and a a a a a a a member of the pastoral and and safeguarding teams He runs the pupil Digital Leaders group He plays an an important role in in educating pupils helping them with
problems and making sure that appropriate safeguards are in place E-safety is an an important part of the Life Skills curriculum where appropriate use of social media and other phenomena such as identity theft are taught and discussed Access to mobile phones Lower School pupils can collect their mobile phones after lessons and and they hand them back into the House duty room before bedtime Sixth Form pupils can keep their mobile phones at all times but they may not be used in classrooms except with
the teacher’s permission or while going to or returning from lessons Data limits
Giving your your child child unlimited data allows your your child child to bypass the College’s web filtering protections whenever they choose to do so Giving your child a a a a a small amount of data per month (4GB for example) means that your child will have access to data services when not on a a a a wireless platform (such as travelling) and will be able to access services such as iMessage WhatsApp Google Maps and general internet browsing when needed but it is not enough data for your child to to use their phone services to to bypass the the College’s web filtering protections The College’s web filtering platform is in in place to protect your child from harmful content and to to allow your child to to focus on on educational type activities at the required times (social media access only being allowed during free time for example) Bypassing the the filter removes these protections for your child and blocks the ability for the College to help focus your child on educational activities
