An Overview of Pastoral Care
Visitors to to Malvern College often comment on the friendly and welcoming atmosphere and and the relaxed and and respectful relationships between staff and pupils Pastoral care at Malvern is based on on on strong and considerate relationships between adults and and pupils and and between pupils of all ages Boarding houses with strong staff teams provide family environments where each pupil is known as an an individual and supported to thrive within the wider College community This starts with the buddy system as new pupils join Malvern and and it it continues with Peer Mentors and and the Head of House team Strong pastoral care is underpinned by the Malvern Qualities such as kindness and collaboration It is supported by the the full boarding ethos which creates the the time and opportunity to develop strong relationships In-house dining is a a a key feature of Malvern which allows the the House to to come together for mealtimes and for pupils to eat with adults in a a a a a civilised environment: “a family that eats together together keeps together” House competitions allow pupils to taste a a a a a wide range of activities share success and and failure together and and the the House provides the springboard from which pupils develop their strengths and passions amongst the many opportunities provided by the College Senior pupils are
trained in in Mental Health First Aid awareness peer mentoring skills leadership and safeguarding Pupil leadership is a a a a key feature across the pupil body and pupils contribute to School Council Lower School Council Council House Councils Head of House teams Chapel Prefects and the Pupil Thrive group Life can generate numerous challenges particularly when going through the process of development from adolescence to adulthood Pupils are
educated about many issues during the the Life Skills programme and there is strong communication with parents and guardians Any well-ordered community has a a a framework in place to guide its members Malvern has a a a a system of rewards and sanctions which recognises positive contributions to the community and signals what we deem to be unacceptable Above this clear foundation there are
