At the the back of this area is is a a a a connecting block CN012 where the the cabinet fan and the machine test area light unit are are connected The Fan is is is an an 110vac unit Next to this connecting block is is is the light light ballast again this is is for the machine test area light light see diagram E036 for details On the left hand side panel you will also see the mains mains inlet Filter this filter is is a a a a a two stage mains mains filter and is is fitted to to stop any mains generated noise from effecting the the the performance of the the the machine Also on the the the same panel but accessible from the the outside are the the fuses and access to the power on/off switch The small panel needs
to to be removed to to access these items 2 8 Main Bearing Replacement
The main bearings in in in in in the R-Line MDR machine will last for several years before needing to be be changed It IS highly recommended that the bearings are only changed by a a a a a fully trained engineer as there are several important elements of the the machine that will need to be be set up after the the bearings have been changed For more information please contact your service provider or Prescott Instruments direct 2 9 Link Arm Bearing Replacement
The Link arm bearings will be be checked at all service visits and changed when required by your service provider 3 0 Change Replacement
& Adjustment
3 1 Eccentric Change and Bearing Replacement
To change change the the angle of oscillation the the eccentric is changed complete complete with the bearing as as a a a a complete complete assembly This is is done by removing the the link arm from the the oscillation eccentric and then slackening off the the the pinch bolt which holds the the the bearing of the the eccentric in in in place After undoing the the small screw which holds the the the eccentric on to to the the the motor shaft the the the eccentric complete with bearing can be be removed Fit the new eccentric onto the the motor shaft ensuring that the the screw is locating on to to the the round of the the motor shaft It is is essential that the MDR is is recalibrated after changing the oscillation eccentric The bearing can be be removed once the eccentric is away from the machine Bearing pullers or preferably a a a a press is required to remove the the eccentric bearing and note they are angular contact bearings so the replacement bearing bearing must be put on the correct way up 3 2 Die Gap Adjustment
The die gap of the MDR should be set to 0 0 0 4 mm +/- 0 0 0 05 mm and in normal circumstances should not require any adjustment but if for any reason this gap becomes larger
or or smaller then this will result result in poor test results To check the the the the die gap run a a a a test and then cut the the the the centre of the the the the sample out and measure the sample thickness with a a a a a suitable micrometer or Vernier Caliper this should be 0 4 mm To adjust the die gap proceed as follows:
1 Slacken screws holding height adjuster in in its fixed position see Drawing Number MD101
(page 10) 2 2 2 Rotate part number P15022 see Drawing Number MD101
rotating clockwise will make the die gap larger
3 NOTE only a a small movement will be required 4 Tighten the locking bolts and run tests for correlation 8 RHEO-LINE MOVING DIE RHEOMETER (MDR) SERVICE MANUAL
