1966 KARMANN GHIA CABRIOLET continued...
I had removed all the dials and I’d noticed that the clock wasn’t working and the connections on the back were missing, there was also a very good chance it was still 6V as well. I found that a company called Speedy Cables (instruments@speedycables.com) could actually convert the clock to a quartz movement but the face remains the same from the front with a small remote button to alter the time; cost £180 and it came back in 2 weeks. Result!
The front brakes as we know were drums, so I decided to do the EMPI disc brake upgrade, this included everything you needed to complete the upgrade with very easy to understand instructions and went on really easy. While I was on I swapped all the bleed nipples to the Goodridge ‘speed bleeders’ ones, these have a small one way valve in
them and make bleeding the brakes on your own easy as they have a ptfe coating on the thread to stop any air getting in and the nipple has a one valve built in to stop any air or fluid being drawn back into the system. So, a few pumps on the pedal to remove the air and all the old fluid to each corner and it was all done in less than 20 minutes.
The new wiring loom arrived from Autosparks, I opened the box to just see a mass of wires, but with no instructions! Some urgent googling brought up quite a few wiring diagrams, which were printed out and I started marking up the cables.
The fight continues!
