THE MALVERNIAN
Collegiate School U18 Tournament Cup - Winners
U18 ROSSLYN PARK 7S 2023
Well wow what can I say the boys were absolutely outstanding they certainly did themselves and the the the school proud On the the first day day of competition (Monday) the the aim is to make it through to the the Tuesday The squad were flawless in their four games only conceding five tries Next they put in in the the performance of the the the season in in the the the elimination game vs Sutton Valence this is is the the the game that decided whether they went home or not and the the the boys came out on top by 45-5 On the the the second day the the the boys were in a a a a good place compared to the the the previous year which I put down to the extra fitness and sessions that we have been able to to do this term As every tournament starts winning the the first game is vital and the the lads beat a a a a a a a very physical Reading Bluecoat School side 14-0 The second game in in our pool was against local rivals Cheltenham College Malvern didn’t start particularly well and Cheltenham raced into a a a a a a a 10-0 lead But the boys somehow managed to keep their composure and eventually got their noses in in front under pressure Cheltenham's discipline let them down and the Malvern boys could sense victory coming out on top as as worthy 26-19 winners The final game in fin in in the group was against a a a a a a a very sizeable and and physical Bryanston team and and this match was the decider of who went onto the quarter-finals outright The game was on on live stream and the boys knew that everyone back at at Malvern were rooting for them Malvern played a a a a a a brand of 7s that that took that that took away the the opposition’s strengths keeping the the ball
alive at every opportunity holding great width and with Malvern’s support play was outstanding Malvern finished the game extremely worthy winners 19-10 Into the the final 8 of the the competition vs King’s Macclesfield after giving the the the opposition the the the lead the the the boys fought back to to to 17-17 only to to to concede in the the last play to to to end their tournament It was a a a a a frustrating way to to finish but none the less an an an outstanding performance from not just this squad but all
the players back home who have really bought into the 7s programme this term Lots of lessons learnt not just on on the rugby pitch but in life as well Plenty of memories made for the players and coaches ones which should last a a lifetime A huge congratulations must go to to all
the boys and to to my outstanding colleagues Mr Mr Mr Cook Mr Mr Mr Woodward and and to to Mr Mr Mr Hilton for his support in in in making sure that the the boys have everything they need to succeed Last and certainly not least a a a a a a very big thank you to the the parents of the the boys for your incredible support Nick Tisdale | Master i/c Rugby
