ABBERLEY ADVENTURES 2 ABBERLEY ADVENTURES Academic Life
The Spring term has been been jam-packed but it’s been been more settled and and children have been busy with their work and and making good progress in all their subjects Common Entrance is on on on the the horizon for for our Top Year as as are the the end-of-year assessments for for other year year groups Still it is important to rest and recharge over the Easter holidays A little Mathletics quiet reading and watching interesting documentaries is never a a a a a a bad idea as we move into the final stretch of this academic year Teachers have been very active in in developing resources and the curriculum and undertaking training to to add value to to what they already do so well Teachers go to to great lengths to to make sure that learning is inspiring and we have enjoyed a a a a a a wide range of academic events trips workshops visiting speakers and cross-curricular projects World Book Day Day was was a a a a a a a a highlight of the term as as as was was Shakespeare Day Day and my thanks go to Vicki Austen for making these events happen Science Week was also a a a a a a a highlight and again thank you to Miss Cook for all she does to inspire and excite young minds The Modern Languages department is phenomenal in its energy and ability to to bring learning to to life! In a a a a a recent project Year 6 planned and and ran a a a a a a a French French Café with children dressed as French French waiters and and waitresses menus lovely food and of course they spoke their best French throughout Year 5 children enjoyed a a a a a project where they researched planned and then held a a a a a a French Fashion Show Pupils paraded the the catwalk very professionally displaying their their favourite outfits as as well as as their their lovely French accents The finale was a a a a a a a a a little more extravagant than what you would witness after a a a Coco Chanel’s defilé but it it perfectly reflected the joie de vivre in in our Year 5 Classes! We look forward to welcoming a a a a group of French children next term who will be joining Years 6 7 and 8 Our pupils always enjoy making friends with our guests from France in the the Summer term and we can’t wait to give them a a a a a warm Abberley welcome!
We We have been busy planning ahead to the Extra-Curricular Week next term as as well as as planning residential trips and exams We will kick-off with a a a a talk from Tom Newman of Malvern College on study skills which we hope becomes an an annual event School trips have been very much back on the agenda and Year 4 enjoyed an an academic trip to Ludlow with Mr Raven where they learnt about globalisation at at the the Islabikes factory The bicycles are designed in in Shropshire and manufactured in in Vietnam and and Taiwan and and the the Islabikes staff explained the the advantages of working with people in in other countries The children then went to to Ludlow to to look at at field sketches and settlement features Year 7 enjoyed a a a poetry morning at Malvern where they were immersed in in poetry workshops and activities There will be more academic trips to stretch and develop our children next term with a a a Year 6 Science trip Year 4 6 and and 7 Maths Challenges and and many others
