Sue Gruellich. Special thanks go to Miikka Kinnaird and Dot Wylie for helping me find source material including committee documents, guide directories and newsletters. I would also like to thank the Scotsman and Edinburgh Evening News for letting us use their images and Fiona Maxwell who proof read my copy. We must also thank those guides who are no longer with us for keeping a record of its activities without which this history could not have been written.
Finally I must thank my wife Sue for her inspiration and encouragement every step of the way.
Sadly, there is comparatively little material relating to the early days of the STGA but hopefully more will emerge over the years to come. I would be delighted to receive more information which I can add in an updated edition of this history.
And as for the future? Well, I am an optimist by nature, and you can be sure we will see tourist guides return. New skills and new ways of working will be required and I am confident members of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association will meet that challenge. You can find out more about the association on www.stga.co.uk
