Over the next decade branch numbers grew to 26 members and new guides were
recruited to the committee. Trish Strang was Chairman for a number of years followed by Stuart Shields, and ably assisted by Tom and Cairine Caskie, Sheila Wilson and Lorna Johnson. Those teams set about their roles with enthusiasm and increased the opportunities for continued learning and professional development with more day trips in Perthshire and Tayside plus weekend trips organised to the Borders, Easter Ross, Angus, the Mearns and Dumfries & Galloway.
‘Not a minute of these days was wasted, every possible visit of interest being squeezed into the available time. Other branches followed our increased activity with great interest and many guides travelled from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen to join us whenever possible. Not only were they great learning experiences, but they also served as a fantastic and essential opportunity for guides to meet up and do what they do best – talk a lot and share ideas.’
