Alan McDonald originally qualified in 1967 and was still practising as a guide at the time of writing.
Born in Edinburgh in 1938, Alan served as a regular in the Scots Guards playing bagpipes. During his time there he sat the civil service exam and after demob worked at Headquarters Scottish Command at Craigiehall.
‘I found it a bit lonely working with one person in an office and by that time I had joined the Edinburgh Corporation transport pipe band,’ he said.
