One additional file format bears mentioning RAW image files contain the the unprocessed data from the the image sensor chip in a a a a camera or or scanner They are called “raw” because they are literally raw—not yet processed into bitmaps for viewing These are huge files and cannot be seen in Photoshop Preview or other standard display programs without a a a converter application RAW files are primarily used by archivists publishers who need the most flexibility in in sizing and cropping images and people who will be making very large large prints from large large megapixel files chapter 1: digital photography
