Poinsettia plant tradition continues
Contact our Clinics for an invitation to our annual Patient Appreciation Dinner
This year’s Patient Appreciation Dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, January 18 at the Mirage Banquet Center at 18 Mile Road and Garfield. Patients can purchase 50/50 raffle tickets with the proceeds going to a family in need in Macomb County. Last year almost $900 was raised to assist a family in the area.
Another tradition of the practice is the complimentary poinsettia plant presented to patients who make an appointment at the Garfield Office for the second week in December. The plants are provided by Brohl’s Greenhouse in Macomb Township. To make an appointment for the week of December 11 through 15 call the clinic at 586-263-4411.

Don’t fiddle around with foot fungus symptoms
Foot fungus is a condition that can take many forms including athlete's foot and toenail fungus, all of which are caused by microscopic fungi organisms that make their way into or
onto the foot.
“Most people get the microscopic fungi organisms when they wear tight shoes
and socks with sweaty feet or walk in damp areas, such as locker rooms, showers and swimming pools,” says
Dr. Thomas Hosey of Hosey Foot and Ankle Centers.
Toenail fungus is a type of foot fungus that grows under the nail bed. Patients with toenail fungus will see that their nails start to smell and turn into dark purple or black colors. They might also find that their nails are thicker and are
painful to the touch including when they wear shoes.
Athlete's foot is another common type of foot fungus and involves the entire foot. This fungus is often accompanied by itching, burning and stinging sensations as well as a rash. This fungus is also contagious and many athlete locker rooms spread the fungus quickly due to damp conditions and sweaty feet.
“Sometimes mild forms of foot fungus can be treated from home, but often patients who fiddle with home remedies simply make the condition worse. More severe cases should be treated promptly at any of our offices where oral antifungal treatments and topical medications can be prescribed,”
says Dr. Hosey.
“Fungal infection of the nail often causes thickening and discoloration of the nail plate that can sometimes even change the shape of the nail,” Dr. Hosey says. “Patients who recently underwent chemo-therapy, have been sick or have undergone poor pedicure treatments often come down with this condition. The condition can cause the nail to become thick, discolored, or loose and may even cause it to crumble.”
Though toenail fungus can affect anyone, it is more prevalent with aging. “Individuals with diabetes and diseases that affect limb circulation are more susceptible to fungal nail infections. People with suppressed immune systems are also at risk,” Dr. Hosey adds.
