Staff remained active as contributors to the IACP Law Enforcement Policy Center through the project’s Advisory Board. This included the review of numerous contemporary policy issues impacting law enforcement agencies on an international platform. The product of these efforts is provided through the IACP website as Model Policies.
CALEA was represented by Chairperson Richard Myers and staff, in the Consensus Use of Force Policy Project, hosted by the IACP and the FOP. This initiative included seventeen professional associations and resulted in the publication of a model use of force policy that has been endorsed by eleven professional associations.
CALEA remained active as a resource to policymakers during the scal year. As an example, staff provided support to members of the United States House of Representatives, on a bipartisan basis, regarding issues associated with the proposed Law Enforcement Training and Integrity Act.
In 2016, efforts to provide standards-anchored resources to law enforcement agencies through a partnership with the Genesis Insurance Risk Management Program were further developed. Although the project was not nalized, these actions have resulted in accepted memorandums of understanding, contract provisions, and revolutionary strategies to support public safety service providers.
CALEA continued its association with the National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence throughout the year. This included strategically supporting efforts to reduce deaths and injuries in the United States resulting from rearm related crimes.
A research partnership with The Police Foundation resulted in the publication of resources to assist client agencies in leveraging the value of the CALEA Standards. The research projects included Event De-con iction, Calculating Available Workforce, Near-
Miss Reporting, and Decerti cation Index Applications. These resources were used as framework publication for associated training deliveries at conferences.
Education and Training Administrator Sheila Hanna presented CALEA with a check for the communications on-line training course.
A partnership with the Association of Public Safety Communication Of cials, International (APCO) resulted in the development and release of an online training course to support the training needs of accreditation managers. The on-line training will be program speci c for law enforcement, training academy, and campus security. Communications on-line training was created six years ago.
