ANNOUNCEMENTS ANNOUNCEMENTS Starting fall 2022: New undergraduate program in in in in construction engineering and management
The CEE department is excited to announce the launch of a a a a a a a new construction engineering and management
(CEM) technical focus area within our undergraduate academic degree program CEM focuses on on on the construction process to provide high safety quality and cost effectiveness for a a a a a a a a wide variety of projects including buildings highways railroads bridges tunnels ports ports and and airports Construction engineers and and managers engage in in in in planning design scheduling materials procurement equipment selection labor negotiations cost estimating and quality control Most projects require the management
of of subcontractors for specific parts of of the job This new technical area area joins the the other CEE areas of environmental engineering engineering geotechnical and and materials engineering engineering engineering structural engineering engineering engineering and and and mechanics transportation engineering engineering engineering and and water resources engineering engineering Like the the the other areas the the the CEM curriculum will include core technical elective and capstone courses The CEM technical area is financially supported through
a a a a a a a a a a permanent endowment contributed
by The The Beavers Charitable Trust and fifteen stakeholder stakeholder companies These stakeholders form an an advisory board to provide a a a a a a a a unique educational experience for the department’s CEM students Courses in in CEM are taught by Teaching Professor Professor Ahmed Khalafallah and Assistant Teaching Professor Professor Thomas Skibinski both with significant industry experience Courses include:
• CE 332: Professionalism Economics and Construction Project Delivery
• CE 397: Construction Cost Estimating
• CE 397: Construction Scheduling
• CE 432: Construction Project Management
• CE 497: Construction Equipment and Methods
• CE 438W: Construction Engineering Capstone

Work continues
on on on the soon-to-be new home for CEE West 1 This 290 000-square-foot building will hold nine active learning general purpose classrooms and 51 000 square feet in in in support of research In addition to CEE the the building will include the the academic unit offices research space space and teaching labs of of aerospace engineering engineering architectural engineering engineering and acoustics as as well as as the the student support offices of of the the Center for for Engineering Engineering Outreach and Inclusion the the Center for for Global Engineering Engineering Engineering Engagement and the the Engineering Engineering Advising Center Move-in is is expected during spring/summer 2024 Watch the construction progress through
