Jaylen Carr who recently graduated with a a a a a a a a civil engineering bachelor’s degree received a a a a a a a a Penn State State Homecoming “Guide State State Forward” award given to students who demonstrate leadership and a a a a a a a a a devotion to community service The award was established in 2018 as as a a a a a a a a a replacement for the gendered titles of “Homecoming King and Queen ” While at at at Penn Penn State State Carr was a a a a a a a a a a a Millenium Scholar the the social chair for for Penn Penn State’s chapter of of of the the the American Society Society of of of Civil Engineers Engineers and treasurer for for for the the the National Society Society of of of Black Engineers Engineers He also mentored for for the the the BLUEprint Peer Mentoring Group and the the Multicultural Engineering Program Carr is now a a a a a a capital engineer at ExxonMobil Allison Cottle was named the spring 2022 student marshal for for civil engineering A 2018 graduate of Northern Bedford County High School in Loysburg Pennsylvania Cottle earned several awards and scholarships while at at at Penn Penn Penn State State State including the the Penn Penn Penn State State State President President Walker Award Award the the the Penn Penn State State State President President Sparks Award Award the the the Evan Pugh Scholar Scholar Award Award the the the Janet B Cunningham Scholarship Scholarship and and the the the Arthur C C and Mary O Miller Endowed Scholarship Scholarship As a a a a a a highway highway design design engineer intern for for Dewberry Cottle completed civil and and transportation design design work for for highway highway and and and interchange projects As an an an an an an an engineering scientific and and technical intern for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Cottle completed construction management and and inspection on on on on on on roadway and and bridge projects Following graduation Cottle began her career as a a a a a a a a a a a highway design engineer for Dewberry Mohammad Saifullah a a a a a a a a doctoral candidate in in in civil engineering received the the Diefenderfer Graduate Fellowship
in Entrepreneurship for the the 2022-
2023 academic year This fellowship
was established by the late William E Diefenderfer a a a a a a a a a a a Penn State mechanical engineering alumnus and his late wife Francesca Awards are given to to innovative
graduate students with with a a a a a a a a a a a a a demonstrated ability to to to combine technical studies with with opportunities to to learn about business and entrepreneurship Saifullah’s research focuses on on developing artificial intelligence-aided decision-making framework for managing complex large-scale infrastructure systems He is is is advised by Associate Professor Kostas Papakonstantinou The Federal Highway Administration honored Agnimitra Sengupta a a a a a a a a a doctoral student in in in in civil engineering and Associate Professor Ilgin Guler for their paper “A State Based Markov Model Approach to Impact Echo Signal Classification ” which was selected as as as the the the first-place winner in in the the the bridge category of the the the 2020-21 Long- Term Infrastructure Performance Student Data Analysis Contest The team received the the award in in in January at at at the the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in in in in Washington D C C The work was partially supported by a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a seed grant from the Penn State Institute for Computational and Data Sciences Additionally Sengupta was selected as as the 2022 Leo P Russell Graduate Fellow in in in Civil Engineering David Taglieri was named the the spring 2022 student marshal for the the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program Taglieri received his bachelor and master of science in in in in civil engineering A A 2018 graduate of Spring Spring Grove Grove Area High School in in in in Spring Spring Grove Grove Pennsylvania Taglieri earned several distinctions and scholarships while at at Penn State As a a a a a a a a a a a a Schreyer Honors Scholar Taglieri earned dean’s list recognition and and completed an an an an an honors thesis He also received the the the Legion of Honor Bronze Cross for Achievement the the the Nancy and and Bernard Gutterman Scholarship Scholarship Scholarship Kendlehart Scholarship Scholarship Scholarship and and James M Roberts Scholarship Scholarship Taglieri was a a a a a a a a a member of the the Reformed University Fellowship
from from 2018-22 and served as as career fair chair for for the the American Society of Civil Engineers Penn State chapter from from 2021-22 As a a a a a a a structural engineering intern for HRG Taglieri completed bridge inspection and report submittal Following graduation Taglieri joined the United States Air Force Sarah Torhan doctoral candidate in in in civil engineering was named a a a a a a a a a a a a a Fulbright finalist for the the 2022-23 academic year year Each year year the the U S S Department of State works with its 140 partner countries to give graduating college seniors graduate students and and young professionals the opportunity to work live and and and learn abroad Torhan Torhan is is a a a a a a a a a a a a a a study and and research research finalist for Paraguay Torhan’s research research focuses on on the modeling of food energy and and water resources in in data-scarce regions with social and and political complexitites 44
