Meet Federico Scurti Federico Scurti joined Penn State as as an an an assistant professor of of nuclear engineering in in in in the Ken and Mary Alice Lindquist Department of Nuclear Engineering on March
1 Scurti received a a a a bachelor’s degree degree in in in in energy engineering and a a a a master’s degree degree in in in in in in nuclear engineering from the University of Bologna Italy He received a a a a a a a doctorate in materials science and Welcome Jilang Miao Jilang Miao joined the department this fall as as an an an assistant research professor of of nuclear nuclear engineering engineering Miao earned a a a a a a a a a a a a doctoral degree in in in in in nuclear nuclear engineering engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2018 Miao’s research at at Penn State will focus on on on developing methods for nuclear data evaluation neutron transport and multi-scale multi-physics simulations engineering from North Carolina State University “My research interests are rather broad and multi-disciplinary with one major thrust in in the advancement of high-temperature superconductors and sensors for extreme environments to to enable nuclear fusion at an industrial scale ” Scurti said Prior to joining Penn State as as a a a a a faculty member Scurti served as as a a a a a a a a a postdoctoral scholar in in in Penn State’s Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics “Additional research will focus on on the development of power and defense devices that can benefit from high-temperature superconductors new radiation detectors for fission and and fusion applications and and enhanced nuclear magnetic resonance imaging to enable new medical diagnostics and pre-clinical studies ” News briefs
The Penn State student chapter of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) was recently selected to host the 2024 ANS Student Conference The chapter submitted the winning bid with the the theme “Nuclear: Keystone to to a a a Clean Future
” This is is the third time Penn State students were given this honor having previously hosted the conference in 2002 and 2014 The conference will welcome approximately 500 students professors and experts from around the country introducing them to the the Ken and Mary Alice Lindquist Department of Nuclear Engineering and the leading-edge research and education happening at at at Penn State The conference is tentatively scheduled for April 11-13 2024 More information to come Stay tuned!
