IV. STUDENT & PARENT INFORMATION BY TOPIC
ACADEMIC HONORS
Students are recognized in the spring and fall semesters at a school ceremony for outstanding academic achievement. The Wakefield Lamp of Knowledge letter is awarded to students who achieve a 3.75 weighted GPA. In addition, outstanding students are recognized by induction into various honor societies. Awards for the school year are announced at the ALL SCHOOL AWARDS CEREMONY and SENIOR CLASS NIGHT in the spring of each year. The PTSA also honors groups of students through their program entitled AIM - Academic Achievement in Motion.
ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY (AUP) FOR STUDENTS
All students registered in the Wake County Public School System will automatically be given access to the Internet and e-maiL Parents have the option of denying these services by completing the Parent Request to Deny Access Form. Unless otherwise stated, students acknowledge that they have read, understand, and agree to the acceptable use of these services as stated in the WCPSS Student Internet Access and Electronic Mail Policy (6446). This policy is found in the Parent &Student Handbook and on the Internet at http://www.wcpss.net/Technologv/standards/aup.html.

ACTIVITY BUSES
After-school Activity Buses will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
ACTIVITY PASS
A student activity pass, sponsored by the Wolverine Booster Club, is available which includes admission to all regular season home athletic events (avg. cost $6). The pass is not transferable and is subject to revocation for disciplinary violations.
ATHLETICS
Student participants are given an athletic handbook outlining expectations and sportsmanship. If there are any questions about a sport or athletics, see Athletic Director, Rick Riggleman or the individual coach for the sport.
Athletic Eligibility - WHS adheres to the NC High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) eligibility rules and regulations. To be eligible to participate in athletics, students must meet the following criteria:
You must have a medical exam and submit the form prior to trying out, practicing, or playing a sport. An exam should be submitted once
every 365 days. In May, WHS holds a clinic where exams are completed for a small fee.
You must pass 3 subjects EACH SEMESTER in order to play a sport
the next semester. Athletic eligibility is calculated on semester grades.
You must have a cumulative GPA of at least 1.5 or 2.0 the prior semester.
