Our first meeting since the summer break on October 6th
was an important one! We voted to continue holding our
monthly meeting in the Arts & Crafts Room on Monday,
November 3rd at 3:30 PM (our usual first-Monday time).
In addition, we’ll now be adding a monthly playdate at
McChesney Dog Park — located on Cashmere Blvd just
before Crosstown Parkway — starting Friday, November
7th at 10:00 AM.
Going forward, we’ll meet for playdates at McChesney on
the first Friday of each month. Before deciding whether to
replace our clubhouse meetings, we’ll see how well this new
park option works for everyone. While at the park, owners
can also coordinate additional playdates — perhaps even
weekly ones if there’s enough interest! This is a test to see if
meeting outdoors with our dogs helps the club thrive.
The dog park offers covered picnic benches for us and has
three separate fenced areas for small, medium, and large
dogs, plus fresh water is available. In addition to socializing
our dogs, I’ll be offering a 30-minute mini obedience
lesson in the parking lot each month for dogs that are new,
reactive, or need a quick refresher. These short sessions
help dogs learn to behave calmly on-leash around others.
Afterward, owners can decide when their dog is ready to
socialize freely inside the park.
In my experience, smaller dogs often seem braver (and
louder!) while on a leash, but once they’re free in a safe
space, they tend to relax. The goal is to help all our dogs —
big and small — feel comfortable and confident together.
Let’s get this club moving in a positive direction and enjoy
seeing our members and their dogs having fun at the park!
We also gained two new members this month! Everyone at
the meeting received a volunteer form for the Angel Rescue
Plan, along with an explanation of how the program helps
members who may need emergency pet care. If you didn’t
receive your copy, forms will be available at the November
3rd meeting.
