 3 Sub-processes of Capacity Management
Business Capacity Management – Looks to understand the businesses future plans in order to ensure that IT provides the appropriate capacity in advance of the business implementing their future plans.
Service Capacity Management – Looks to understand the current and historical usage patterns of a service in order to encourage or control those usage patterns. Penalties and incentives may be used to move usage to time frames when IT expects there to be excess capacity.
Component Capacity Management – Looks to understand the capacity utilization of individual components (servers, bandwidth, routers, electricity in the datacenter, floor-space, people).
3 Viewpoints
By understanding the patterns of business activity (PBAs), IT can identify capacity requirements to which the service will be subjected. During the Strategy and Design stages, IT can properly scope the requirements for internal and external suppliers.
