Service Catalog Management Process
The Service Catalog Management Process is responsible for updating and maintenance of the service catalog. The service catalog is a widely available source of consistent information regarding production services (or those ready to be transitioned to live). This catalog provides customers and potential customers with information required to understand the value of services, how to order services,
available
options,
pricing, delivery
mechanisms,
contact information, etc.
Think of any catalog that
you may have ordered a
product from. Everything in that product catalog is defined and written in terms of explaining to you how you will receive value from purchasing the product. Product catalogs even use pictures of beautiful people to equate your own picture of yourself wearing or using the product. It is all about marketing. This marketing is exactly what should happen in the IT service catalog. Everything should be explained in terms of business value. What will the business get out of purchasing and using this service? It is also imperative that the information be kept up to date and accurate. Inaccurate or out of date information would definitely make a bad impression with the customer. The service catalog manager is also responsible for ensuring that this “database” is backed up up and maintained.
