Release Policy
A policy is a widely available statement of intent. Release Management is responsible for the creation of the release policy. It describes how a release will be managed including the identification, naming conventions and numbering schemes for all types of releases. Included in this policy statement will be:
• The unique identification, numbering and naming conventions for different types of release
• A description of each type of release
• The roles and responsibilities at each stage of the process
• The expected frequency for each type of release
• Major Release
• Minor Release
• Emergency Release
• The approach for accepting and grouping changes into a release
• Definition of any mechanisms to be used within any of the following
areas:
• automate the build
• installation and release distribution processes used to:
• improve re-use
• improve repeatability and efficiency
• How the configuration baseline for the release is to be captured and
verified against the actual release contents • hardware
