The United States is the second largest market for eCommerce with a revenue of US$599.2 billion in 2021, placing it ahead of Japan and behind China. With an increase of 11%, the U.S. eCommerce market contributed to the worldwide growth rate of 15% in 2021. The eCommerce market in the United States is expected to increase over the next few years, as indicated by the Statista Digital Market Outlook. It has been predicted that the compound annual growth rate for the next four years (CAGR 21-25) will be 5%. Compared to the year-over-year growth of 11% between 2020 and 2021, this decrease in yearly growth suggests a moderately flooded market. An other indicator of market saturation is the online penetration of 75% in the United States; in other words, 75% of the U.S. population have bought at least one product online in 2021.
Five categories are considered by ecommerceDB. Fashion is the largest segment in the United States and accounts for 31% of the eCommerce revenue in the United States. It is followed by Electronics & Media with 21%, Toys, Hobby & DIY with 20%, Furniture & Appliances with 16%, and Food & Personal Care with the remaining 12%. Recent data revealing that 40% of internet users predict direct to consumer brands to make up 40% of their total purchases within the next five years.
The biggest player in the U.S. eCommerce market is amazon.com. The store had a revenue of US$125.8 billion in 2021. amazon.com is followed by walmart.com and apple.com as the second- and third largest stores with US$46.4 billion and US$25.9 billion, respectively. Altogether, the top three stores account for 35% of online revenue in the United States.
One of the fastest-growing stores in the U.S. market is kickscrew.com. The store achieved online net sales of about US$82 million in 2021. Its revenue growth amounted to 107% in the previous year.
kickscrew.com is a multinational online store, which generates its largest amount of eCommerce net sales in the United States. the United Kingdom accounts for the second largest share of its eCommerce net sales. With regards to the product range, kickscrew.com specializes in the “Fashion” category, particularly in the area of “Footwear”.
