The training track at Woodbine is scheduled to re-open on Tuesday, March 1. With that date fast approaching, the newly appointed Director of Backstretch Operations, Steve Koch, had a few updates for the horsepeople preparing to ship-in for the 2005 racing season.
• Stall applications are due no later than February 8. Along with the stall applications trainers should provide the WEG Appointment of Authorized Agent Status Form (Form C). Form C, must be on file with the Race Office before the horse can be shipped into Woodbine.
• In/Out Slip applications must be filed at the Race Office or Stable Office at least 24 hours prior to the horses’ arrival or exit. A valid nega- tive Coggins test certificate is also required for every horse.
Questions regarding IN/Out slip applications and Authorized Agent Form C should be directed to Karl Lagerborg, Superintendent of Stabling at 416-675-3993 ext. 2417.
These forms are available for pick- up of via fax at the Race Office or on the web at www.woodbineentertain- ment.com. Stall applications and Form C may be submitted in person or faxed in at: 416-213-2128. Stall applications may also be mailed in.
• Trainers may move their equip- ment, tack and horses into the Woodbine backstretch, beginning, and no earlier than, Monday, February 28.
• A new environmental surcharge
has been implemented for 2005. A $30.00 plus GST per stall per month Environmental Surcharge will apply to all stalls on the Woodbine back- stretch. The trainer is responsible for every stall allocated to them, regard- less of the actual or intended use of the stall(s). Payment is required on the last day of every month.
• Due to the high phosphate con- tent of the tested water at the end of the 2004 season, WEG is informing all horsepeople that all soaps used on the backstretch must be biodegrad- able. Biodegradable soap is clearly marked on the label. This is a very important issue as expensive regula- tions due to high phosphate content can potentially close down the back- stretch.
• Dormitories are available to back-stretch workers to move-in on February 28. A Dormitory Application and Agreement form must be filled in along with proof of backstretch employment (T4 or T4A slip) to Donna Duda, Dormitory Custodian.
The 2005 live Thoroughbred rac- ing season at Woodbine begins Saturday, April 16.
Construction on the new elevator at Woodbine continued despite the frigid temperatures in January. The elevator will provide access from outside of the thoroughbred paddock area to floors 2 to 5 of the grandstand. There will also be an external stairway as well as a special viewing area overlooking the paddock enclosure and outside walking ring. Construction is scheduled to be completed by summer 2005.
