Woodbine’s Big Events Info on their Website

The Labatt Woodbine Oaks, scheduled for June 10, is a $500,000 Stakes event for Canada’s best 3-year-old fillies. Currently on the site are photos and comments on this year’s top contenders; the Mark Casse trained Sealy Hill, owned by Melnyk Racing Stables; Quiet Jungle, trained by Mark Frostad for Sam-Son Farms; and the Beclawat Stable’s Saskawea, trained by Steve Attard. Check out the archived news & notes for more interesting comments on the other possible participants.
The Queen’s Plate is the next big feature event at Woodbine. The $1,000,000 Stakes race for 3-year-olds foaled in Canada, the Queen’s Plate is the most prestigious race in the Country. The 148th running of the Plate is scheduled for June 24.
Under the Queen’s Plate link you will find photos and news on this year’s top contenders including the handsome grey colt by Cozzene, Jigg’s Coz, trained by Sid Attard for owner Jim Dandy Stable as well as the Chiefswood’s contender Markdale, trained by Eric Coatrieux. You’ll also find information on the Robert Tiller trained, multiple stakes winner, Dancer’s Bajan, owned by 3 Sons Racing Stable Ltd. along with the Roger Attfield trained, Include Us.
While on the sire, take part in the weekly Poll which asks for your opinion on the different hopefuls going forward to the Plate.

Queen’s Plate Fantasy Challenge Update

Scott Mcivor of Aurora is the current leader with 603 points, Richard Stewart of London has 583 while MonicaTrellesofAjaxhas563. EachhaveDancer’s Bajan as their stable star, with jockey Patrick Husbands and trainer Sid Attard
providing the majority of their points.
In the Pro’s Standings it is last year’s pro challenge winner, Ted Labanowich
leading the way with 422 points followed closely by Paul Turney at 415 and Cindy Pierson Dulay at 413. Ted, who writes a regular horseracing column for the Hamilton Spectator, and is a correspondent for the Daily Racing Form, has Marchfield as his stable star with Jiggs Coz, Patrick Husbands and Sid Attard
making up the majority of his points.
Paul, an Equibase Chart Caller, has Twilight
Meteor as his stable star and Patrick, Sid and Dancer’s Bajan providing him with points.
Cindy is the owner and editor of www.horse-races.net and has Dancer’s Bajan as her stable star with Jiggs Coz, Patrick and Sid also elevating her in points.
The Game’s own Steve Roberts, who historically starts off a bit slow for points is currently a scary 19th in the standings with 107 points. His stable star is Include Us and his highest amount of points have come from Dancer’s Bajan.
The Queen’s Plate Fantasy Challenge is a fun and interactive way to keep on top of the hopefuls the Plate.
Back in March participants were asked to choose nine horses and a stable star from a list of Queen’s Plate eligible horses. They were also asked to choose 3 jockeys and 3 trainers from designated lists.
Points began on March 31 with 10 pts. given to horses with a parimutuel win anywhere in North America. The majority of the points, however, come from the officially designated Queen’s Plate Prep Races at Woodbine which include:
The Woodstock - April 21
- won by Kentucky-bred, Like Mom Like Sons, with Patrick Husbands and Sid Attard
The Queenston - May 5
- won by Ontario-bred Jiggs Coz,
with David Clark and Sid Attard
The Marine - May 19
- won by Kentucky-bred, Sahara Heat for U.S. interests
The Plate Trial - to be run June 3
The Victoria Park - to be run June 10
The Labatt Woodbine Oaks (for fillies)
- to be run June 10
The Queens Plate - to be run June 24.
Points are awarded for the connections of the first
thru fifth place finishers in each of the above races.

Queen’s Plate Notes:
2006 Champion 2-Year-Old Male, Leonnatus Anteas, has been slow to return this season, having his first 3 furlong breeze in May. Trainer Kevin Attard was quoted as saying that, ‘it will be tough’ to make the Queen’s Plate, but he won’t rule him out either.
Queen’s Plate candidate, Mountain Wolf, had to be euthanized after breaking down on the main track at Woodbine May 20. According to his trainer Brian Lynch, the Stronach Stable owned hopeful had just finished working and shattered a sesamoid while galloping out.
