Canada’s reigning Horse of the Year, Fatal Bullet, has been sidelined from racing for three months after being injured while preparing for the $250,000 G1 Malibu Stakes which ran on December 26 at Santa Anita Park. Fatal Bullet bruised his right knee in a work on December 13. Trainer Reade Baker was con dent that the Bear Stable’s owned four-year-old will make a full recovery. Fatal Bullet was sent to Ocala Stud in Florida to recover and will make his rst start at Woodbine in the Spring.
For all U Mothers Passes away
Oriental Spring Farm’s matriarchal mare, For All U Mothers, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2008. She had a very full life in her 35 1/2 years, 31 years of which she spent at Marilyn Cook’s farm in Loretto.
“My many memories of her days with me include several colic attacks, two of them nearly fatal and a couple of serious leg injuries that could have seriously crippled her but she was a ghter to the end.” wrote Marilyn in an email to The Game, “She only had 3 foals as her heat cycles were so erratic that she was very dif cult to breed. Her rst daughter April Snow who is now 30 years old carried on the rather mediocre bloodline for her. Her granddaughter, Orientalspringhope is producing the 4th generation now. A 2-year-old lly, Hopes First Love is in training now. Her whole family miss her.”

uS Congress and a large bipartisan coalition of lawmakers have introduced a bill, known as the Conyers-Burton Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act, which
is outlined to stop the export of tens of thousands of healthy American hoses
for butchering in Canada and Mexico, as well as to change the wording of the of cial ban on slaughter of American horses in the United States for sale to countries in Europe and Asia.
The issue is considered a top priority for House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) and Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind) as well as The Humane Society of the United States and other animal welfare and equine rescue organizations, veterinarians and horse industry groups.
