Whatever track it is you are watching on TV, whether it be Woodbine in Toronto or Churchill Downs in Kentucky, you will see people of many different nationalities working together. The reason for this is because at the racetrack, there is no difference.

Horse racing here in Alberta is much the same. If you take a look around the backstretch at Northlands Park, you will see people from all around the world.
Our racetrack chaplain, Jim Haggan, originates from Belfast Ireland, we have trainers from the United States, England, Jamaica and all across Canada.
The Jocks room is full
of riders from all around
the world as well. Stephan Heiler is originally from Germany, Roy Ramirez from Panama and Nela Mohammed is from Trinidad. Desmond Bryan, Quincy Welch, Jonathan Grant and Rickey and Rico Walcott all originate from Barbados. Kenyatta Davis is from Jamaica and the new apprentice this year, Omar Moreno is originally from
El Salvador. Real Simard, Jake Barton, Ron Blinston, Johanne Duquet, Shannon Beuregard, Perry Winters, Gary Stein and Hugh Huston are all originally from this beautiful country; Canada.
Behind the scenes in
the backstretch there are workers from Peru, Trinidad, Japan, Jamaica, Mexico, Native reserves in North Saskatchewan, and across Canada from Vancouver Island to Corner Brook Newfoundland. Even the cooks in the backstretch kitchen are of a different culture. They provide
a special menu every weekend; Won Ton soup, and we are grateful for it.
There is an opportunity here are the racetrack, for everyone. Not only here in Alberta but among many other racetracks all over the world; an opportunity to travel and to meet different
