Outside the Borders - Continued from Page 32
The Gr3 Usha Stud Bangalore Summer Million over a mile at Bangalore brought a surprising, although impressive result for the trainer S. Ganapathy and jockey Imran Chisty. After showing signs of losing his form, Golden Edition a 3yo chestnut son of Alnasr Alwasheek (GB) bounced back with some authority, relishing the soft ground to beat the fast finishing Splendid Surprise and the useful Woman on Top.
South African speedster Mythical Flight had to be content with a third place finish in the Gr1 Mercury Sprint over 6f at Clairwood. Although setting a good pace up front, he couldn’t hold off the strong challenge of Mocha Java and then the even- tual winner War Artist in the closing stages. With this being his second career loss, both at 6f, it would be great to see him step
back in trip and go Global, he’s exciting and so bloody fast! War Artist has always looked a horse with potential and has the Hong Kong International Sprint in December on his agenda.
A terrific finish was fought out in the Vodacom Durban July, with five horses all in with a chance in the shadow of the line, but it was the very late run of Hunting Tower and jockey Anton Marcus that grabbed the cash at the curtain close. Kildonan ran as though a shorter trip would better suit.
After putting up a worthy performance to finish second in the Gr1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket’s July meeting in England, the Mike de Kock trained Irridescence will now head to Arlington Park for the 1m2f Beverly D, a trip which will play far more to her strengths and she will have to be respected on that performance.
