Pele (Oct. 23, Santos, New York Cosmos, Brazil)
Pele was among the most successful and popular sports figures of the 20th century. In 1999, he was named Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee. In 2000, the three-time World Cup winner was voted World Player of
the Century by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) and was one of the two joint winners of the FIFA Player of the Century. His 1,279 goals in 1,363 games, which includes friendlies, is recognized as a Guinness World Record.
Diego Maradona (Oct. 30, Napoli, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Sevilla, Argentina)
An advanced playmaker who operated in the classic number 10 position, Diego Maradona’s vision, passing, ball control, and dribbling skills were combined with his small stature, which
gave him a low center of gravity and allowed
him to maneuver better than most other players. In his international career with Argentina, he earned 91 caps and scored 34 goals. Maradona played in four FIFA World Cups, including the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, where he captained Argentina and led them to victory over West Germany in the final, and won the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player. In the 1986 World Cup quarter-final, he scored both goals in a 2–1 victory over England that entered football history for two different reasons. The first goal was an unpenalized handling foul known as the “Hand
of God”, while the second goal followed a 60 m dribble past five England players, voted “Goal of the Century” by FIFA.com voters in 2002.
Marcus Rashford (Oct. 31, Man. United, England)
Marcus Rashford scored two goals on both his first-team and European debut. The forward also scored in his first Manchester derby, as well as
on his EFL Cup and UEFA Champions League debuts. With United, Rashford has won the FA Cup, two EFL Cups, the FA Community Shield and the UEFA Europa League. Rashford scored on his England debut in May 2016, becoming the youngest English player to score in his first senior international match.
Alphonso Davies (Nov. 2, Bayern Munich, Canada)
Considered one of the best full-backs in the world, Davies earned the nickname “The Roadrunner” for his exceptional pace, dribbling ability, and creativity. He joined Bayern in January 2019 from the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on a contract lasting until 2023 for a then-record MLS transfer fee. Davies was named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season for 2019–20. He would go on to be named CONCACAF Men’s Player of
the Year in 2021 and 2022. Davies was called up to play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he scored Canada’s first-ever World Cup goal.
Selma Bacha (Nov. 9, Olympique Lyon, France)
Selma Lena Bacha is a French professional footballer who plays as a left-back or left-winger for Division 1 Féminine club Lyon and the France national team. She signed a professional contract with Lyon during the 2017–18 season. That same season, Lyon went on to win the Champions League, with Bacha starting in the final.
Paulo Dybala (Nov. 15, Roma, Argentina)
Paulo Dybala began his senior club career in 2011 playing for Instituto de Cordoba, before signing for Palermo in 2012, at age 18, where he won a Serie B title. In 2015, Dybala signed for Juventus and won five league titles and four Coppas Italia. He was also voted Serie A Most Valuable Player once, was also included in the Serie A Team of the Year four times, and ranks as Juventus’ ninth- highest all-time goalscorer. In 2022, he joined Roma. Dybala made his senior international debut for Argentina in 2015 at age 21 and has since earned over 30 caps, including appearing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, 2019 Copa América, and 2022 World Cup, winning the latter.
