Academics
Divine Savior Academy’s elementary students are engaged in inquiry- based learning that develops problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Students work to become proficient writers, learn to analyze literature for greater understanding, study primary sources and documents, and explore through STEM-related (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) activities so that learning is hands-on, engaging, and meaningful.
Theology: The elementary theology curriculum utilizes the Christ Light series, which presents both Old and New Testament Bible stories in an exciting, colorful, and memorable manner. This comprehensive curriculum gives students a rooted foundation in God’s Word, equipping them to live as children of God.
Language Arts: A clear understanding of the English language is imperative for success in all areas of the curriculum. Divine Savior’s language arts curriculum accomplishes this by integrating reading, writing, phonics, spelling, grammar, and oral expression in a sequential and developmentally- appropriate order. Writing is heavily emphasized. Students become proficient writers through a step-by-step process that includes writing phrases, sentences, paragraphs, reports, letters, poetry, journals, and short stories.
Math: Divine Savior Academy’s traditional approach in mathematics gives students a firm foundation in computation, problem-solving strategies, and data interpretation. Our age-appropriate curriculum is experiential in nature and employs manipulatives and real-life situations to build mathematical knowledge.
Science: The science curriculum leads children to a greater appreciation and understanding of the world around them. Students discover various aspects
of physical, earth, and life science through hands-on experimentation, special group projects, and technology-based learning. Special emphasis is placed on developing skills such as observing, hypothesizing, predicting, testing, and interpreting.
Social Studies: Students are exposed to a variety of social science disciplines. These include communities, world cultures, values and customs, history, geography, sociology, current events, economics, concepts of globalization, and civics. This curriculum aspires to give students the necessary tools to be active, responsible, and well-adjusted citizens and leaders.
Enrichment Classes: Art, music, and physical education classes provide a complete educational experience for our students. These classes are part of every student’s schedule at the elementary level.
Technology in our Classrooms: At Divine Savior Academy, technology plays an important role in learning. Campus-wide WiFi connects students to valuable online resources. A robust network provides students with a safe learning space while offering access to a multitude of tools for research and innovation.
Each classroom is equipped with technology to enhance the learning experience. Technology integration throughout the curriculum foster communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Additionally, our campus includes mobile iPad carts, Chromebooks, and classroom computers.
