be sketched or, better still, photographed with a tag with a registration number attached. The object may then be systematically dismantled and the various stages recorded and photographed.
Finally, it is extremely important when examining artifacts to ensure that the objects are well lit. Strong, powerful lights are indispensable for exam- ining objects and for drawing artifacts. Good light levels help to reveal details which would not normally be visible otherwise; this is a factor which is often underrated.
