isnotcertain if the guns exactly matched. Their location on t h e w e s t e r n s i d e o f t h e s i t e , s e p a r a t e f r o m t h e m a i n c o n c e n - tration of guns, indicates that they may have been located on the upper deck or on the poop. Guns Nos 3 and 4 are a pair, having the same length and identical mouldings. However, their slightly different weights is possibly a reflectionofthepoorsurfaceconditionofNo.4, wherea small error in the measurement of a diameter would give a large change in the weight approximation for the gun. Guns Nos 1,2and 13 also match, with same length, weight and mouldings. Nos 5 and 8 are very interesting, since they have similar mouldings and length, but No. 5 is a much lighter piece than No. 8.
Additionally. two guns recovered from the Vergulde DraeckG12andG13.andonegunfromtheKennemerland
K6 (Price & Muckelroy. 1974) have been included in the t a b l e a n d t h e c h a r t . I t i s k n o w n t h a t t h e g u n N o . G 13 ( G T 1456) was inscribed 1700A and the gun No. G12 (GT 1454) was inscribed 3230A. The calculated weight ofG 13 (1634Amsterdarnpont)correspondsreasonablycloselyto the stated weight of 1700 Amsterdam pont. However, the gunG12isquitedifferentwithacalculatedweightof2078 Amsterdam pont and a stated weight of 3230 Amsterdam pont. It is possible that the inscription 3230A has been misread. It is unlikely that either the breech or muzzle diameter has been incorrectly measured as it would require an increase of diameter of about 100 mm to give the indicated value. It does seem. however, that the Vergulde Draeck guns are longer and lighter than the Batavia guns. The Kennemerland gun (K6). however, seems to be simi· lar in class to the Batavia guns Nos 2 and 13.
