e world changed and Rockbridge was almost abandoned. Eventually, only the post office remained to mark the existence of this once bustling community.
In 1946, the Amyx family – Lile, Edith and Ray – moved to Rockbridge. Lile and Edith Amyx had a sawmill on the lower part of the stream, and also worked in neighboring Gainesville at the family business, the Amyx Auto Company.
In 1954, the family began to develop the Rockbridge Rainbow Trout and Game Ranch. Sandra Amyx served as postmaster of the Rockbridge Post Office, the oldest post office in the county, from 1985 until when it closed in 2015.
e family worked hard to make Rockbridge a vacation destination, upgrading but still maintaining the old-time history and charm.
