THE RIVIERA COUNTRY CLUB
The Riviera Country Club is an internationally renowned golf course that was established in 1926 and has been open for play since 1927. Noted for its spectacular beauty and uniquely challenging design, the George C. Thomas masterpiece is perennially rated among the very finest in the world.
The course is well known for Ben Hogan and is commonly referred to as “Hogan’s Alley”. In the 1940s, Hogan won the Los Angeles Open three times and finished second once. Other notable winners at Riviera include Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Hale Irwin, Tom Watson, Johnny Miller, Ben Crenshaw, Fred Couples, Davis Love III, Corey Pavin, Craig Stadler, Nick Faldo, Erine Els, and Phil Mickelson. Hogan won the 1948 U.S. Open at Riviera, and Irwin won the 1998 U.S. Senior Open. Hal Sutton won the 1983 PGA, and Steve Elkington won the 1995 PGA. Riviera serves as the venue for the PGA TOUR’s Genesis Open benefiting the Tiger Woods Foundation which takes place each February. Riviera hosted the U.S. Amateur Championship in 2017 and will serve as the host of the golf in the 2028 Olympics to be held in Los Angeles.
