Cleaning of medical devices
DIN EN ISO 17664 defines cleaning as the removal of stains from an object to the degree required for further processing or the intended use.
Efficient cleaning of medical devices is a prerequisite for efficient disinfection and - if required - subsequent sterilization. Manual cleaning is performed using suitable cleaning agents. Cleaning agents differ in their ingredients (surfactants, enzymes and disinfectants) and their pH value (slightly alkaline, highly alkaline and pH-neutral). The cleaning of medical devices can be performed with cleaning accessories, e.g. brushes.
