What are QAC/Quats?
QAC is short for quaternary ammonium compounds. Generally it is referred to them as quats.
Almost all manufacturers of disinfectants use QAC as aldehyde-free active ingredients in their products. This group of active ingredients is distinguished by good cleaning properties, a very low toxicity and little volatility. Therefore compounds based exclusively on QAC are almost odourless, especially in comparison to aldehyde-containing compounds.
Due to their low volatility QAC can form a crystalline layer on the surface to be disinfected if used over
a longer period. These layers should be regularly removed by using cleaners based on non-ionic tensides, otherwise adhesive effects may occur.
When using surface disinfec- tants, sticky effects may occur.
