Witch Balls have been very popular since the 18th century. First in England, then in New England, but their actual origin is considered to be much older. For well over 3 centuries hollow glass spheres have been hung in windows to ward off witch's spells, evil spirits and ill fortune. Hanging these decorative glass balls in the window or on the porch is thought to tantalize mischievous spirits which may be threatening a home's tranquillity. The wayward spirit is mesmerized by the ball's reflective beauty.
When the spirit touches the sphere it is absorbed and trapped in the web-like strands of the glass inside the ball. You can still get these beautiful hand blown witches balls today but modern
witches have found another way to customise their witches balls for all their needs by adding herbs, trinkets, charms, petitions, mirror pieces etc into the balls themselves.
I like to make these at Samhain as that is the witch's new year, which I then re-fresh each year to bring new protection to my home each year. Witches' Yule Balls are a lovely way to give a gifts to loved ones for protection, good health etc but also a lovely ornament to hang on your yule tree to bring good energy into your home.
Step - By - Step
1 Cleanse your bauble with your preferred method.
2 Charge your desired herbs with their intent and place them inside the bauble
3 If writing a petition do so now and place
inside the bauble
4 Place any crystals or other desired
items inside the bauble (ribbons,
charms, taglocks)
5 Pop the top on top of the bauble & wrap the material you chose around the top. Thinking of your intent as you do so.
6 Once finished crafting hold the complete bauble in your hands, Empower the ball with the following:
Guard My Home,
Keep Me Protected and Safe. Let Only Good Energy Come My Way
And Only Blessings Walk On This Floor, Positive Energy Forever More.
Evil Spells Shall Not Be Cast, Block All Evil And The Dark Arts, May Only Good Approach Our Hearts And Good Fortune Should Everlast So Mote It Be
7 Build the energy with chanting
drumming if you wish to make it stronger.
8 You’re done! Hang your Witches Yule Blessing Ball preferably near your front door or in a window.
9 Close the circle if you cast one.

(material of your choosing) Charms
(if you wish to add more protective symbols or decor)
Taglocks if you wish to incorporate (item of the person your blessing. i.e lock of hair)
Crystals
Herbs
Paper & Pen
