Divination – Filled with water, the cauldron provides a dark, reflective surface, perfect for scrying. You can simply gaze into the dark depths of the cauldron, or drop oil or candle wax onto the water’s surfaces to receive messages from the Universe/Guides. Or burn incense inside and read the smoke as it rises.
Containing Water – You can use your cauldron in place of a Chalice or Cup to carry water either as a representation of the West or Goddess energies.
Containing Fire and Smoke – Cauldrons are often used by witches as convenient fire bowls. Decent sized cast iron cauldrons can safely hold a ceremonial fire or contain burning objects, such as bay leaves and pieces of paper dropped into them, or for incense, smudging, spell candles or burning offerings.
Raise the Cauldron Spirit - The cauldron spirit is simply a high proof alcohol such as isopropyl/ Rubbing alcohol in which herbs of magical purpose have been steeped in this alcohol and then strained. The mixture is poured into the cauldron, over a layer of salt until it covers the salt and then set alight. You can watch the flames for divination, or just allow the flames to release the energies of the herbs to help your magickal work.
The way The Wonky Witch Uses her Cauldrons.
I usually use my cauldrons in 2 ways on my altars to represent 2 elements. Water or Fire.
Usually the cauldron is looked at as a water element as the shape of the cauldron represents the female womb. As well as the cauldron usually has 3 legs, Representing the Maiden, Mother & Crone Female Aspects.
I also use it as the fire element and burn a simple candle inside.
However as i have a few different sizes i do also use them to burn spells ingredients, petition papers or use them as the altar method as mentioned above. (Magickal Uses - Spell Pot)
But, how about using it for all 4 elements?
Just think about it for a moment....You wish to represent all 4 elements/cardinal points on your altar, you may not have a lot of room, you may like a simple altar set up, you may not be able to afford all of the so called witchy ‘must haves’. Then my fellow witches, a cauldron is all you may need for your witchcraft. As said previously a cauldron can be your witchy altar all in one.
Yes it is nice to have the different items on your altar but you really do not need a lot.
Think of when you have made or used loose incense for a particular sabbat, spell, ritual or for general use. Just using a loose incense within your cauldron can represent all 4 elements.
So the element representations I am talking about is as follows:
The Water Element being the Shape of the Cauldron. The Fire Element being the charcoal disc you light to
burn the loose incense.
The Earth Element being the dried herbs, flowers & resins of your loose incense.
The Air Element being the smoke that rises from the burning loose incense.
There you have it. All 4 elements in one. That’s it, that’s all you need.
Yes you will need some loose incense and charcoal to burn but you can purchase these items or make your own loose incense at a very affordable price.
So as you can see Cauldrons are amazing tools to use within your witchcraft and if you're anything like me, you have a range of sizes and types you use within your craft. And if you don’t then why the heck not I say?
These are wonderful tools to use and have so many uses, I personally consider them to be a must have, not just a ‘would be nice to have one’.
So go out there fellow witches and get yourselves a selection of cauldrons and use these wonderful items as a stable tool of your craft.
The Wonky Witch has a wide range of cast iron cauldrons of all different sizes here at Kallima for any purpose you wish to use them for, or any space you wish to use them in.
