CONCEPT AND TEXT BY SARA TORRES
This interactive biography of a woman artist explores the life of Annelise Elsa Frieda Fleischmann, born in Berlin in 1899 to an affluent family. As a teenager, she likes painting, but art is more than a hobby for her. Follow her life and make choices as she attempts to become an artist.
   1. become an artist
The Expressionist painter Oskar Kokoschka lives nearby. Will you stay at home or knock on his door and introduce yourself?
    stay home?
Become a bourgeois painter. Entertain guests at home and show them
your lovely, untroubled art. As you superficially discuss with your guests those modernists pushing the envelope, you have a lump in your throat, knowing you’ll never become a modern artist.
 knock on the door?
Take your paintings with you and pay a visit to Oskar Kokoschka.
  yes! the door opens
The artist stares at you with disgust. You tell him you love painting and want to become his apprentice. He laughs and slams the door.
You came to this place to become an apprentice and what you got was a more important lesson: getting someone to train you as a serious artist is going to be tough. Although knocking on Kokoschka’s door is a humiliating experience, this choice allows you to continue the Adventure of Modern Art.
