Ca è amaro, a novel published by
Feltrinelli in Italian in 2016 is another best- seller by Italo-British author Simonetta Agnel- lo Horby. It is a love story full of passion set in Sicily in the early twentieth century.
When Maria, a 15-year-old girl coming from
a family with great ideals but with no means, meets Pietro for the  rst time she is so scared that she does not dare ask for sugar to put in her co ee. From that moment onwards, she will always have bitter co ee.
Baron Pietro Sala, 34, falls in love with her at  rst sight, asking for her hand in marriage. He loves traveling, women and gambling.
During a trip to Tripoli, Maria  nds out what relates her to her friend Giosué, whom she has always considered like a brother. From that moment on they will start a secret rela- tionship lasting twenty years.
The story is set in an imaginary village called Camagni, and spans a period that goes from the beginning of fascism to the bombings that destroy Palermo.
Simonetta Agnello Hornby focuses on her main character, her story and her personal decisions in a crucial period of the history of Sicily and Italy.

The lights turn on at the Forum of Augustus and at the Forum of Caesar 2000 Years Later.
Creatively using the remains of the Forum and the latest technology with special e ects, viewers are accompanied by the voice of Piero Angela and the wonderful archive foot- age and reconstructions showing the places as they appeared at the time of Caesar and his successor focusing in particular on the imposing  gure of Augustus, whose 12 me- tres high statue dominates the area next to the temple.
