almost impossible to walk. Mega cruise ships are now allowed to dock in Venice’s lagoon pouring out thousands of day-trippers (see below), in addition to the Venice Biennale and Venice Carnival. Most shops and restaurants seem to cater only for visitors with tourist prices. The city was not built to hold such a large capacity. Venice needs to save its iden- tity and live a normal life, where its cultural heritage can be appreciated at a normal pace.
The starting points for the visit to Venice are Piazzale Roma and Venice’s central railway station right on the opposite side of the canal. They are the gateway to Venice where to buy a City Pass Venezia Unica to board the water bus known as the vaporetto. Venice’s official city pass, part of AVM Holding S.p.A., offers other services for Venice, such as access
to museums and events. These passes can either be bought at sale points or in advance online from: www.veneziaunica.it/en/e-commerce/ser- vices.
