A TRIBUTE TO
the musical director for several amateur operatic and drama groups across
West Lothian and was the leader of the Falkirk Orchestra.
Joe was the bandmaster of the Royal Burgh of Linlithgow Reed Band for nineteen years and proudly led the Marches procession every year. He was a kenspeckle figure at the head of the band at Linlithgow Gala Day, Bo’ness Fair, Edinburgh Festival Cavalcade, the Free Colliers’ Walk and many other events throughout Scotland. He also took the local musicians to
West Lothian’s German twin district of Hochsauerlandkreis and really loved every minute of his time with the band. Over the years, Joe also guested as a percussionist with a number of other bands, including Bo’ness & Carriden and Kinneil.
Not content with band music, Joe was asked to set up a Male Voice Choir at the
Rugby club. Under Joe’s guidance, the choir performed locally and internationally in China, Canada, France, and Belgium. He was also instrumental in setting up Linlithgow Ladies Choir.
As if that wasn’t enough, he took his turn to play the organ at church (St Peter’s) on
a Sunday, provided music for the local Masonic Lodge and at local undertaker Bobby Bennie’s funeral home. Joe would also play the accordion for the ‘Old Folk’ on the train and canal boat outings organised by the Rotary, as well as at local care homes and sheltered housing developments.
Please join the family to celebrate Joe’s life.
