the time that stoppage-time was announced we still hadn't mustered a single shot on target or even won a corner. Newcastle had had a few decent shots on target without seriously threatening to score, the closest of which was a Coloccini stab as early as the second minute.
Anyway, I was just hoping that we could manage to avoid conceding in those closing minutes when suddenly the game was turned on its head. We managed a rare quick break upfield and as Fletcher burst into the box he was brought down by Coloccini. The ref pointed to the spot and then, as was right, Coloccini was red-carded. We waved him a fond farewell as he handed over the armband and made his way to the tunnel. Johnson stepped up and put the penalty away into the bottom right corner though Elliot came close to getting a hand to it. The place went apeshit and Johnson ran most of the length of the pitch in celebration turning into an aeroplane as he went. In the kerfuffle after the goal someone was yellow-carded and it turned out to be Colback. He'd been booed continually every time he got the ball and his afternoon was getting steadily worse. The whistle for half- time soon sounded out to great rejoicing and with a goal lead and a man advantage things were looking good.
Colback's afternoon got even worse just after we kicked off again as he went down injured and after spending a few minutes on the touchline he was subbed and slowly made his way off right round the side of the pitch enabling much more booing from our fans at closer quarters. To be fair
