DISCOVER CULTURE AND HERITAGE IN VANCOUVER
This autumn, visitors to Vancouver can enjoy a number of exhibitions and art galleries.
For the very first time, National Geographic’s 'Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience' will take over the Vancouver Convention Centre from 27th October to 8th January, 2023.
This unique exhibition celebrates the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of King Tut’s tomb and connects the journey to modern-day Egypt through nine distinct galleries, including a narrated VR Experience of the tomb.
Another Vancouver gallery to experience is The Contemporary Art Gallery. Awarded an AIBC Architectural Award of Excellence, Lieutenant Governor Medal in 2002, the building is centrally located in downtown Vancouver and offers curatorial tours, open studio times with varying artists, discussions and workshops.
Located in the historic Gastown neighbourhood, The Coastal Peoples Fine Arts Gallery curates authentic local First Nations art. Visitors can discover the art and diversity of Canada’s First Nations, Plains and Inuit peoples and the gallery also supports the artists’ families and communities while helping to keep their culture alive.
In addition The Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art houses the Simon Fraser University Bill Reid Collection and a variety of exhibitions of contemporary Indigenous Art of the Northwest Coast of North America.
True to Place: stímetstexw tel xéltel is the latest exhibit
to be featured and examines the artistic practice of 10 Indigenous painters who are inspired by place-based stories and contemporary themes. Also currently on exhibit until October 23rd, Beaded Nostalgia explores how contemporary beadwork is a way of keeping connection to the past.
Four artists are featured using innovative beadwork ‘to express feelings of nostalgia and connections to their
own experiences’.
